Maintenance Plans for Resident Geese

Will develop ‘hazing’ schedule over the course of weeks or months based on flock patterns. Rates are based on size/scope of property, with notable reductions on multiple locations

The Geese quickly become acquainted with our presence, and flighty with each visit, learning their boundaries. 4 of Chicago’s most notable golf courses are now practically free of mess and obstruction, solving a century old nuisance not achieved until this past year. Many methods have been attempted over the decades, but this one has finally fixed the problem. Even still, with wetlands this vast, regular maintenance is still required.

The Process & Objective

  • Familiarize every corner of the property grounds
  • Immediately introduce the Collies to the flock, both in water, and on land
  • Blitz the grounds hard at first, then observe behavioral pattern changes
  • Adjust activity & frequency as needed

H5N1 Avian Flu is currently affecting anything near the Great Lakes and particularly, Chicago Region. Canines are not affected by the virus, but humans are. As the outdoor recreation begins in Spring, nothing could be worse than the appearance of the mess which these birds leave in their wake. Golfers, Little League, Soccer, children within School Districts – all may be exposed to the virus, and at the least the optics of a messy grounds.

People ask why the ‘Stalky Time’ ahead of the outrun? This allows the flock to prepare for eviction. They alert each other to the threat, and this allows us to bring a few moments of reflection to the birds and give them the option to vacate. It also leaves a more lasting impression which may convince them to make fewer attempts as squatters.
